Finally, weekly inflation declines to below 35%


For the week that ended on June 15, 2023, weekly inflation fell below 35 percent on a year-over-year (YoY) basis, according to figures provided by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PSB) on Friday.

The price of cigarettes increased by 124.38 %, tea Lipton by 114.93 %, wheat flour by 110.08 percent, gas charges for the first quarter by 108.38 %, rice basmati broken by 79.11 %, rice Irri-6/9 by 78.11 %, potatoes by 67.44 percent, bananas by 67.33 %, gentle sponge chappal by 58.05 %, pulse moong by 53.41 %, bread by 52.36 %,

Week-to-week variation

In comparison to the prior week, the SPI rose by 0.20 percent this week. Food prices had the biggest increases in Sugar (4.24%), Gur (2.42%), Wheat Flour (1.79%), Curd (1.59%), Pulse Mash (1.25%), Garlic (1.15%), Milk Fresh (1.08%), and Washing Soap (1.61%). Non-food prices saw the smallest increases in Washing Soap (1.61%) and Gur (1.25%).

On the other hand, a decrease was observed in the prices of Onions (7.56 percent), Bananas (5.00 percent), Eggs (4.86 percent), LPG (4.14 percent), Pulse Moong (2.04 percent), Pulse Gram (1.46 %), Vegetable Ghee 1 kg (1.36 %), Chicken (1.12 %), Mustard Oil (0.75 %), Cooking Oil 5 Litre (0.44 %), Pulse Masoor (0.42 percentage) and Vegetable Ghee 2.5 kg (0.36 %).

Out of 51 goods, 19 (37.25%) saw price increases over the week, 12 (23.53%) saw price decreases, and 20 (39.22%) saw no change.
