With malicious Android apps, Indian hackers once more target Pakistan

Through a new targeted campaign, malicious Android applications are going after consumers in Pakistan in an effort to steal sensitive data and gain illegal access.

According to cyber security company Cyfirma, two malicious Android applications from the Google Play Store are specifically aimed against Pakistanis. The DoNot Team hacking gang, also known as APT-C-35 and Viceroy Tiger, is waging a targeted offensive.

This specific spying scheme includes luring Android users into downloading a malicious software, which is then used to steal contacts, location data, and other information.

According to Cyfirma's cyber security specialists, the assault's goal is to acquire information via the stager payload and utilize that information for a second-stage attack that employs malware with more damaging capabilities.

Once the malicious programs are set up, they perform trojan-like tasks in the background, giving the attacker remote access to the victim's system and making it easier to steal confidential data from infected devices.
